Kids’ Fishing Derby (Powers, OR)
The 29th annual Powers Kids’ Fishing Derby is Saturday, May 18th, 2019, 7:30 a.m. – noon at the Powers County Park in Powers, Ore.
Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest staff will join numerous other community, education, and government partners at the derby to encourage interest in the outdoors and promote fishing as an outdoor activity for the whole family.
Children ages 16 and under are invited to participate, while adults are invited to join them in exploring a variety of interactive, educational booths hosted by a variety of organizations active in Coos County and the community.
There is no cost to participate in the derby, but children 12-16 years of age will need an Oregon fishing license to fish, which must be purchased from the state of an authorized vendor prior to the event.
“We are very excited to host this fun-filled family event in Powers at the County Park. It has become a treasured annual tradition for many children and their parents in Powers and the surrounding communities,” Kathy Allen, Powers District Ranger for the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, said.
In addition to trying to land “The Big One”, young anglers can participate in a casting contest or learn how to fly fish from Coos Bay Bureau of Land Management employees.
