Edible Mushroom Hike & Cooking Demonstration (Willamette NF)

Fall Edible Mushroom Hike & Cooking Demonstration. Difficulty: Moderate. Length: 2 miles. Learn about the uses of wild mushrooms, how to distinguish between edible and non-edible species; we will collect edible mushrooms and have a cooking demonstration at Longbow in the afternoon. Preregistration is required. Tours and they fill up quickly. Register at www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 (search or ask for “Sweet Home Nature and Heritage Tours”). Most tour fees are $10 per person ($5 with a Senior or Access Pass), plus a $1 service charge. Request for refunds must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the date of the tour. There is limited space on the Nov. 1 and 8 Willamette NF mushroom hikes, so please choose only ONE date. This way, we can allow new people enjoy this great experience. Come prepared for an exciting day of learning about the different mushrooms in the forest. Plan on spending the day and make sure to bring appropriate clothing, footwear, water, lunch – and of course your picking bucket . You may want to try a milk jug on your belt to keep both hands free!
Sweet Home Ranger District “Heritage Hikes” are offered under the Recreation Fee Program authorized by The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA). Fees are collected to fund protection and enhancement of local historic sites for public use and enjoyment, and for the continuation of conservation education programs.
